Discussion on the film “Courageous.”

22 Jan

What do you think of the movie? I witnessed a lot of allergy action (sniffling noses and runny eyes)….

Let’s get some discussion going!

For starters: What do you think of requiring your daughter’s suitors to meet your approval before allowing your daughter to date the fellow? In this modern world, is there any way any father could get this to work? How?

Comments, please!!!!

The movie challenged me again! I would definitely require my daughters’ suitors to meet with me before I allowed them to go out on a date. I think the way to accomplish this is by starting young so there are expectations that they will be accustomed to. If you just try to spring it on them when they reach that age without any prior foundational work it will be more difficult than it will be. Either way, parenting is a difficult prospect.

I believe even more difficult during today’s age when alot more freedom is given to their peers and society as a whole. Like what Major said during his message, a society that is largely amoral, not immoral. Do what feels right, brings the fastest result, and its nobody’s business but your own.

As a father, I am going to put more time into learning what the Bible says a father should be. Resolving to be disciplined enough to put into practice what I learn.

As a man who is not a father my challenge came from the story of the African American officer who did not know his father. But a mentor stepped in and changed his life.
I have done this in the past. It has been a great blessing. But I have not done it in a while. Truth is God calls all men to be men of Courage. Not just fathers. What about the many who have no father.
It is my prayer that God would open doors for me to help those who need a mentor.
I am coming to see God is not done with me.If He has worked through me before , He will do it again.

John, I couldn’t agree more. I don’t think God is done with us on this earth as long as we are here. He is always hoping we will do His will. Sometimes we just need to listen to Him a little better and not our own selves. I know that is something I can do better.

There is definitely many ministry opportunities as a Godly man who may not be a biological father. There are so many boys/young men these days that are growing up in fatherless homes. These are perfect situations for a man of God to step in and provide that mentor/role model figure that a young man needs in his life.

I want to encourage you to keep going. I can tell God is working on you as he is with us all. Praying for you brother, please pray for me.
